Innovation and tradition. Artistic design and new technology. Englishness and the cosmopolitan. Since its launch in Stoke-on-Trent in 1793, Minton's work has been characterised by that bold mix. This inspiration made Minton Europe's leading Victorian ceramic manufacturer - and an enduring classic brand for luxury tableware, teaware, and ornaments for modern day lifestyles.
Minton?s initial success was due to Thomas Minton, his fine copper plate engravings included the famous blue printed earthenware 'Willow' pattern amongst others and he was one of the first to introduce the new bone china body in c1800. Herbert Minton, his son, led the company with dynamic and inventive management gaining Royal patronage and working in association with AWN Pugin, Father of the Gothic Revival, the most radical Victorian art-botanist designer Dr Christopher Dresser and Alfred Stevens, known for his work on the Wellington monument at St Paul?s Cathedral. In 1856, Herbert Minton was appointed Royal Warrant Holder by Queen Victoria for the supply of Minton china, earthenware, encaustic and plain tiles. Subsequent monarchs have appointed Minton Royal Warrant Holders without interruption to the present day.
Today this rich heritage of Minton plays a key role in the renaissance of the brand; new technology has been introduced, however there remains a great input of artistic ability and hand skills which ensures the Minton name remains as sought after as it ever was. The current designers remain as passionate about the history of the brand as ever. Inspired by the rich heritage and archives of the past the design team use contemporary influences to bring the Minton look completely up to date.
