Terence Conran by Royal Doulton - The Essence of English Design
Sir Terence Conran is a leading figure in the design world, working on the Festival of Britain as a student, launching Habitat in 1964, and is now Chairman of Conran & Partners who have over 100 live projects on the go all over the world.
With over 50 years experience in design, he brings his creative expertise to the tabletop by creating Terence Conran by Royal Doulton which combines the very best of contemporary Conran design with the traditional functionality of the kitchen.
Terence Conran said, "When I was a school boy we were taken on wonderful visits to grand, stately homes and very soon I found myself going down to the kitchen area, where all the practical, useful things were done. Ever since, I have been interested in solid, simple products that were often used below stairs, and I think my range for Royal Doulton represents the traditional values of hearty English cooking."
Above all, it reflects Conran's passion for classic cooking of traditional, hearty recipes and generous portions. This comprehensive kitchen, table and glassware range is made from a wide variety of tactile materials, including robust stoneware, oak, soda glass, and wire-ware.
A Free Hand In Design
Each simple, versatile item is based on Terence Conran's own freehand sketches and drawings.
He said, "Cooking should be enjoyed in a relaxed, informal atmosphere so each piece in this collection has been thoughtfully designed for just that - easy, versatile use. The range allows the food to take centre stage and brings a new vitality to the traditional English kitchen. I hope you enjoy its practicality and charm."
The Terence Conran Tableware collection is available in two designs - Albion is pristine white and Chophouse features an eye-catching mix of horizontal blue stripes of various scales, tailored to suit each individual piece but you can combine the two designs to create a look to match your own personal taste.
Terence Conran Tableware
The plates come with generously deep wells and the saucers have the depth needed to keep cups safely and securely in place. All the flatware has level profiles for ease of serving, dining, and collection with cutlery.
The holloware has a naturalistic, avian theme, especially the pots, jugs, teapot, and pitcher. From ovoid body to tail-feather handle, the sauce jugs are perfectly balanced and look like nesting birds: their tails are designed for ease and comfort of pouring. And the motif is pursued with the raised beak-like snips of the pots and jugs.
Taking the avian theme further, the pie dishes come with an ingenious the blackbird funnel. Licking his lips, Terence suggested:
"For a memorably delicious pie, fill the dish to the gunnels with lamb neck fillets, apples, and onions, for a traditional 'Gloucester Squab' - and the little blackbird will keep your piecrust crisp and golden."
Terence Conran Accessories
Naturally, the accessories are designed to take you from kitchen to table with the simplest of ease. The chopping boards and serving bowls are made from solid oak with an oiled finish and the round chopping board collects juices in its outside ridge, allowing them to be poured back into the sauces being prepared for extra flavour.
Terence Conran Glassware
True to the ethos of the tableware, there's a complementary range of clear, durable glassware - hand made with generous proportions for understated style and true versatility. The stemware, for example, features smoothly curved bowls leading up to straight rims, all accompanied by tapered tumblers and a stylish carafe and jug. Terence Conran once remarked that he "finds the simplicity of a generous wine glass both comforting and reassuring" so we hope you enjoy these elegant, handcrafted wine glasses as much as he does.
Think contemporary Conran. Think traditional functionality. That's Terence Conran by Royal Doulton - The Essence of English Design.
