Petites - Christmas Day 2006

January - 50% Off

Christmas Day is an excellent Royal Doulton display piece - a traditional seasonal feast of a figurine, smartly clad in scarlet jacket and bonnet set off by a veritable blizzard of white underskirt, a familiar red shoe peeping out from the layers of frills. This celebratory Best of the Classics Royal Doulton bone china figurine was originally modelled by Valerie Annand and made available during 2004. You can see why it was also made available as Victorian Christmas.

Petites Best of the Classics are inspired by noted best sellers - popular favourites - from the Royal Doulton Archives dating back to the 1900s. When people choose collectable Pretty Ladies like these they see the period, the look, they most admire and cherish as a showcase for their taste. Each figurine bears the prestigious Royal Doulton backstamp as well as a unique reference number.

Elegant Petite Ladies draw on the finest traditions of design and craftsmanship from Royal Doulton Pretty Ladies - reproducing them as bone china figurines that are truly petite at just 17 cm in height. All chosen carefully from the Archives, each one is beautifully hand made and hand decorated in rich colours from an extensive palette and instantly recognisable as Royal Doulton.

Pretty Ladies have always been one of Royal Doulton's most popular ranges of collectable china ornaments. Also known as Fair Ladies, they are a long-established part of the portfolio, beginning their modern life in 1913 at the start of the HN Series of figures - and the start of the rebirth of Staffordshire figure making inaugurated by Leslie Harradine and Charles Noke of Royal Doulton.

Today, Pretty Ladies are the epitome of a bygone age of elegance and romance, and have become collectable as much for individual artistry as well as set ranges. The names of the sculptors involved reads like a Who's Who of Royal Doulton artistry: Leslie Harradine, Peggy Davies, Pauline Parsons, Peter Gee, John Bromley, Nada Pedley, Valerie Annand and Neil Walsh, among others.

Often characterised by the toe peeping out from a swirling dress, their appeal can come from a romantic name or a beautiful gown. They are handmade from bone china, individually decorated by hand, which contributes both to the collectability and the lasting allure of Royal Doulton Pretty Ladies.
